Congratulations to our First Volunteer Difference Award Winner

Congratulations to our first Volunteer Difference award winner is Ginny Upshaw, a volunteer from Bradenton, nominated for her extensive work with an ALS patient based on this nomination:

“Ginny provided  immeasurable care to an ALS patient. She has been the constant in the patients life.  Ginny found ways to help ease the frustration of the patient’s families absence for periods of time and she visited as often as necessary to help.  As communication became more difficult, she helped the caregiver develop different ways to help the patient communicate their needs.  They developed communication boards and finally a laser head piece that worked with a computer. As caregiver frustration built, she was there to encourage him to nap, run errands and to take bike rides.  She spent countless hours with the patient, organizing photos, typing captions, preparing insert sheets and running errands to make sure the photos were converted to cd’s that the patient wanted to leave for her family.”

Tidewell introduced the Volunteer Difference award in January. This quarterly award allows families and staff to nominate volunteers for going above and beyond while serving at Tidewell.

Nominations for the Tidewell Volunteer Difference are accepted at any time. All Tidewell Volunteers are eligible for nomination. In order to win, nominees must be in good standing and have been a volunteer with Tidewell for at least six months. Nominations should be based on a specific action(s) taken by a volunteer that demonstrated one or more Tidewell Core Values, with consideration given that the act meets the expectations of Tidewell’s established boundaries for volunteers. Past winners are eligible for nomination one year after their recognition.

Nominees who are not selected as the monthly winner can be re-nominated for the same action once more, and only during the following month. Self-nominations are not accepted.
