St. Thomas More Girl Scout Troop 780 of Sarasota shared holiday spirit by singing carols earlier this month at Tidewell’s Sarasota Hospice House.

First-year troop leader Jill Crabill led eight scouts, five siblings and two former scouts as they played the piano and clarinet and sang holiday classics in the hospice house’s common area. The group also accepted an invitation to sing in the room of a patient whose wife recently passed away.

The girls in Troop 780 support Tidewell all year. They participated in the Run for Tidewell 5K for the second consecutive year and have donated Girl Scout cookies, baked for the hospice house’s family waiting room and provided seasonal decorations. For this holiday season, the scouts decorated pine cones to sit on the patients’ side tables.

Said 7-year-old scout Abby, “I like to make crafts and sing at hospice because it might be the last thing that person sees before they die, and I want them to die happy and let them know we care about them.”

The troop began supporting hospice after Tidewell cared for a close friend of the founding troop leader. Other troop leaders also have had connections to hospice and Tidewell’s grief counseling program.

Thank you, Troop 780, for your generosity!
